The College takes add, drop, and withdrawal deadlines very seriously. Please see the College's online calendar to view the deadlines for the current semester.
Once the withdrawal deadline passes (called the "Late Drop with W" deadline in the new SIS [the Student Information System, formerly ISIS]), you are in your classes and will earn whatever grade is assigned to you by the professor. Instructors may extend the opportunity of an Incomplete, but only upon completion of the Request for Extension form available in Garrett Hall.
The Registrar will send your schedule over email about 3-5 days before the drop deadline (by this time you should have already verified your enrollments), and again prior to the withdrawal deadline. You are responsible for reading your schedule carefully, checking for errors, and for making any necessary changes (i.e., drop the courses you are not attending or add the courses you are attending in a timely way). You may check SIS at any time to verify your enrollments.
Using the SIS, you have two full weeks plus two weekdays from the first day of classes to add a course to your schedule. Some classes do not permit adds after the first week of classes has passed (e.g., PHYE, SPAN and ITAL).
Be sure to attend the first class meeting (or call the instructor) or you may lose your enrollment. You will then have to drop the course in SIS.
Changes to and from the CR/NC grading option must be decided by the add deadline -- no exceptions. A passing grade is determined by individual faculty members.
Selection of the audit option is subject to faculty approval, and faculty have the authority to refuse an auditing student.
SIS will force you to drop one section when you attempt to add another section of the same class. If you do not have all the prerequisites, the professor and the department have the authority to ask you to leave the class.
If, after the add deadline has passed, you find that you are not enrolled in a class you have been attending, you will need to complete a Late Schedule Correction Form to add into the class. If you are approved to add the class late, you will be added into the class but you will have to forfeit your enrollment place the next semester.
During the drop period, you may drop a course using SIS without it being noted on your permanent record and without the instructor's permission.
You must request permission from your Association Dean if dropping from a course will leave you with fewer than 12 credits. Drops below the minimum cannot be made using SIS, but must be done using a Course Action Form; file a petition with the Association Dean requesting permission to carry a reduced course load. Note that you will incur an Academic Warning. This may also jeopardize your financial aid, your full-time student status for purposes of NCAA eligibility, parents’ health insurance, veterans’ benefits, international student visa, and automobile insurance for "Good Student" discounts. If you stop attending a course without formally dropping or withdrawing from it, you will receive a failing grade.
If, after the drop deadline has passed, you find yourself enrolled in a class you never attended or forgot to drop, you will have to use the "Late Drop with W" option in SIS. This will result in a "W" on your transcript.
If you wish to discontinue a course after the second week of classes, you must use the "Late Drop With W" (withdrawal) option. If you miss the drop deadline (see above) you have eight weeks from the start of the semester to leave a class using this option. This will result in a W on your transcript.
You must talk to your Association Dean if dropping late from a course will leave you with fewer than 12 credits. Note that you will incur an Academic Warning. This may also jeopardize financial aid or full-time student status for purposes of NCAA eligibility, parents’ health insurance, veterans’ benefits, international student visa, and automobile insurance for "Good Student" discounts. If you stop attending a course without formally dropping or withdrawing from it, you will receive a failing grade.
If, after the withdrawal deadline has passed, you are enrolled in a class you never attended, you will need to fill out a Late Schedule Correction Form to withdraw from the class. Failure to do so will result in your receiving a grade of F.
You may need to make changes to your schedule that SIS won’t allow. For example, you may want to drop below the minimum number of credits or enroll in more than 17 credits. In these cases, you must complete a Course Action Form to change your schedule. This form must be signed by the appropriate faculty member and then submitted to the department.
