The University of Virginia offers a wide array of services and programs to guide you in your academic career and other matters. Use the links below to learn more about what is available. You may also contact your Association Dean for assistance.
Study Abroad: Eligible students work with their academic and study abroad advisors to select an appropriate program, to ensure award of academic credit for the work done abroad, and to prepare for the foreign experience through an extensive orientation program. Program is facilitated by the UVA International Studies Office.
A&S Career Services can help students with career counseling, preprofessional advising, job/internship search strategies and career paths. Arts &Sciences Career Services is part of University of Virginia Career Services.
Preprofessional Advising Office: Provides support for students and alumni preparing for careers in law, medicine, and the other health professions (dentistry, veterinary medicine, optometry, pharmacy, and physical therapy). Students receive guidance towards setting realistic expectations, understanding professional school admissions requirements, and maximizing undergraduate experiences in preparation for a successful career.
Pre-Law: Pre-Law advising helps you address questions as you begin to consider the possibility of law school: What is the process? What kind of timeline do I need to follow? What kinds of things can I do to prepare?
Pre-Health: Pre-Health advising provides assistance with course selection and how to meet the requirements for admission to medical schools. Students may select any major (medical schools have no preference) and still have time for elective courses. However, medicine and other health fields are taught as scientific disciplines, and prospective students must prove their strength in science.
Pre-Business: Students who wish to pursue careers in business and who also wish to receive a liberal arts degree from the University of Virginia College of Arts & Sciences should consider taking in the College some or all of the courses required for transfer to the School of Commerce.
Teacher Education: The University of Virginia Teacher Education Program provides for a combined bachelor’s and master’s degree at the end of five years. If you are interested in the program, be sure to attend a special meeting--check your Fall Orientation Schedule for the time and place.
