An expert on international political economy and East Asian Politics, she is the author of numerous articles, books and an award-winning documentary. Jim also oversees the Arts & Sciences Research Administration Office, and promotes multi-investigator, inter-departmental, and inter-school opportunities for sponsored research programs.

Robert Fatton, Jr., Associate Dean for Graduate Academic Programs, and the Julia Allen Cooper Professor of Government and Foreign Affairs, leads the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences. Richard Handler, Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs and Professor of Anthropology, is responsible for supervising all operations of the undergraduate College of Arts & Sciences. He oversees the association deans who carry out lower-division undergraduate academic advising, the Echols Scholars program, and the academic regulations of the College. He also coordinates the work of the Curriculum and Educational Policy Committee (the elected faculty body that evaluates new courses, majors, and degree programs); oversees the annual academic audit of all College students.

Eugene R. Schutt, Jr., Associate Dean for Development, directs the Arts & Sciences development office, a group of advancement professionals responsible for fundraising efforts and alumni relations activities. Currently, he is overseeing the completion of the Campaign for the College, a $500 million capital funds campaign, part of the $3 billion Campaign for the University of Virginia.

Robert Campbell, Director of Arts & Sciences Computing Support, plans, coordinates, and manages computer support, programming, and database services within Arts & Sciences to insure that computer equipment, support, and programming needs of Arts & Sciences’ instructional, research and administrative units are met.

Neal Grandy, Director of Arts & Sciences Research Administration, provides accurate, timely, and professional advising on University- and Arts & Sciences- sponsored research and other administrative policies and procedures. He oversees pre- and post-award research grant activities for Arts and Sciences; provides various financial and other grant-related analyses; and represents Arts and Sciences on research matters.

Valerie Larsen is Director of the Arts & Sciences Center for Instructional Technology (ASCIT), which supports the integration of technology into teaching and research in various capacities. Her responsibilities include oversight of the ASCIT Language Lab and ASCIT Equipment Loans. Valerie and the ASCIT staff provide one-on-one and small group consultation, training and presentations on the use of technology in teaching to College faculty and teaching assistants.

Charlotte Morford, Director of Communications, manages a team of editorial and Web professionals who produce the school’s alumni magazine and online periodicals, numerous Web sites, and a range of development publications.

Mary Stegmaier, Assistant Dean of the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences and an Assistant Professor on the general faculty, manages the day-to-day operations of the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences. She oversees admissions, enrollments, and degree audits; manages budgets for graduate support; and serves as the principle liaison with the directors of graduate studies, students, and University offices concerning issues related to students, finance, and administrative of the Graduate School.

Anna Towns, Director of Space Planning and Management, directs space management by developing long and short term plans to utilize space, including the space master plan for Arts & Sciences. She oversees the planning and management of renovation projects. She also is responsible for the Arts & Sciences capital plan and submission of capital projects initiation requests; she provides technical advice and support to Arts & Sciences deans on matters of facilities planning and construction; and is the chief Arts & Sciences technical representative with all architect and engineering consultants.
